Today I decided to have another plein air adventure. Thought I’d head out to the Minnippi Parklands in the late morning as I wanted to make the most of my last annual leave day from work.
There were a few people about, lady joggers, elderly couples taking a stroll, dog walkers, and even a council worker or two having early morning smoko by the lake.
I walked around just spending some time LOOKING. Many of the wetland areas are looking lush and green. The leaves and trees made some beautiful shapes which made me wish that I had brought along my sketching book and pens instead. But no matter, I can always come back another day.
I crossed a little bridge running over the Bulimba creek. There’s a nice little corner of the bridge that is nicely always shaded. Another place which would be ideal for a sketch or paint, methinks. Heart shaped dock leaves and tall swaying cattails.
Some local birdlife came to visit while I was setting up. These guys weren’t shy. There was also a little moorhen family poking around with their one and only baby. Ravens. Magpies. Butcher birds. Lots of unidentified bugs. Luckily for me, I have insect repellant.
Ooops. Disaster. Forgot my water spray, which means I have to work super fast. Oh, and I brought the wrong yellow. Never mind, that will force me to use some unfamiliar colours.
Quite pleased with the end results. “Two Blackbirds Sitting in a Tree.” Acrylic on Masonite. 12″ by 12″.
