After sketching in journals in pen and wash for almost a year, I decided to take the plunge and move onto acrylic paints on a much larger scale. it was revolutionary!
Sure, it took a bit more preparation than simply just picking up a pen to ink in some lines. I ended up visiting our local Eckersley’s art store almost every week to build my supplies. So much so, that the staff started throwing in freebies and getting to know me (and them) on a first-name basis. This is great, cos I now know in advance when sales are coming along and can wait till the right time to get my purchases in.
I couldn’t believe how simple and liberating it is to use acrylic paints. Mistakes can be painted over. And over. And over. Colours are vibrant. Washing up is simple as pie. Canvases come in many different sizes and a few different shapes. I was blown away.
When I came across an opportunity to participate in a charity exhibition by the HandupCreatives group, I jumped at the opportunity to show off my new found hobby. The theme of the exhibition is “Vice Versa”, and the show aims to raise money for the Spina Bifida Organisation. Now I have looked after some of these patients in my job, so I know how tough it can be. So why not? It’s for a good cause, even though I do have to fork out some cash as an exhibition fee.
So the two pieces above will be my contribution. “Day” and “Night”.
