Since we moved to this area, I’ve always noticed this little restaurant tucked along Logan road, next to a very ordinary looking Chinese vegetarian restaurant. But somehow never ventured to have a meal there, I suppose I was thinking that a small suburban restaurant probably wasn’t going to be too impressive. Anyway, OH was googling around for good eats in Brisbane and we were amazed to hear that this place was voted as one of the best restaurants in our area, so we decided that we simply had to give it a try tonight. So armed with our kids and my sister-in-law, we checked the place out.
Absolutely surprised. It was cheerful and nicely decorated inside, with some artworks for sale on the bright yellow walls. Fabric wall hangings. Pretty moroccan looking glass bowl lights. Cheery red and yellow stripey table cloths. A real lemon tree outside and grapevine growing out of wooden planters. The waiters and waitresses were attentive, polite, and FAST! It’s one of the few places that actually replaces your empty bottles of water without waiting for you to ask for it. And cleverly, they got the kiddies’ meals out a hell of a lot faster, saving HANGRY tantrums from the underaged.
I got my mojo back for urban sketching, so I had my sketchbook with me. And managed to capture a few people in typical dining postures. Old couples, young couples, families, groups of friends, different nationalities. It was great. Food and drink were flying out of the kitchen door. They even had a non-alcoholic drink and mocktail menu. The kids’ meals certainly didn’t lack quality. The fish was delicious.
I had the Spiced Kofte which was very tasty and man, I don’t know how they make their rice but I am totally in love with this saffron pilaff with slivered almonds. OH had fish tagine and my sister-in-law had the meze platter. And I finished off with a very interesting dessert which tastes better than it sounds. A deep fried cheese drenched with rose-scented syrup.
I already know what I am going to be having for my dinner next time I visit.
